What is the FIFA Fan Festival?

The FIFA Fan Festival started at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Cities set up free public viewing areas where fans without stadium tickets could watch matches on giant screens. The 2006 Berlin Fan Fest drew more than 9 million visitors across the tournament.

The 2022 Qatar tournament took the concept further. The Al Bidda Park main festival featured 146 music artists across 28 days. Performers included Calvin Harris, Diplo and Sean Paul. The site held 40,000 fans at a time. Total Fan Festival attendance topped 1.8 million across the tournament.

The 2026 FIFA Fan Festival is the first to run across three countries. Each host city designs its own festival around local culture, food and music traditions. FIFA confirmed all 16 venues by February 2026.

United States Fan Festival Locations

The United States hosts FIFA Fan Festivals in 11 cities. Six cities run the festival for the full tournament. Five cities run select-day programming tied to local match windows.

New York / New Jersey: Fan Zone Queens + Rockefeller Center

The New York and New Jersey area runs two separate Fan Festival sites. The original plan for Liberty State Park in Jersey City was cancelled in February 2026. A proposed Corona Park site in Queens also fell through. Both fell through over funding and logistics.

The replacement plan includes Fan Zone Queens at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from June 17 to June 28. The site uses Louis Armstrong Stadium for match screenings. Fan Village Rockefeller Center runs from July 4 to July 19 in midtown Manhattan. The site stays open through the World Cup Final on July 19.

New Jersey runs a separate distributed network of fan zones across 21 counties as the region’s official fan engagement programme. Governor Sherrill announced the New Jersey programme in February 2026.

Atlanta: Centennial Olympic Park

The Atlanta FIFA Fan Festival takes place at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta. The festival opens on June 12, 2026 and runs on 16 select event days through July 15. The park hosted the world during the 1996 Summer Olympics. The 2026 tournament marks the 30-year anniversary of that summer.

Entry is free with Digital Pass reservation. Registration opened on March 26, 2026 through atlantafwc26.com. Each ticket covers one specific event day. The site offers four programming zones: a main stage with massive video screens, a family zone, a food zone and a cultural hub.

Paid upgrades are also available. Atlanta GA+ costs $45 to $65 and includes private restrooms, bar access and elevated viewing. Atlanta VIP costs $225 to $325 and adds food stations plus air-conditioned hospitality. Suite packages run $10,000 for 25 guests. Atlanta hosts eight World Cup matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium including a semifinal.

Houston: East Downtown (EaDo)

The Houston FIFA Fan Festival takes place in East Downtown, locally known as EaDo. The site sits next to Shell Energy Stadium. The festival runs 34 match days during the tournament. The host committee expects more than 500,000 visitors total. Daily capacity sits at roughly 15,000 fans.

The festival includes Football Fiesta Houston. This programme extends World Cup energy into the broader EaDo neighbourhood. The site features Esphera, a projection dome inspired by the official World Cup match ball. The grounds also include an air-conditioned activation space, a 7v7 youth tournament and Texas-style food vendors. Misting zones, shaded areas and on-site medical resources help fans manage Houston heat. Gates open 90 minutes before the first kickoff of each match day.

Houston hosts seven World Cup matches at NRG Stadium including a Round of 16 fixture on July 4. Premium Legends Loft hospitality packages accommodate up to 100 guests in air-conditioned private spaces.

A 10,000-capacity amphitheater hosts live performances between matches. Entry is free.

Programming includes the Faces of Fan Festival interactive installation. Attendees contribute photos and personal messages to an evolving visual collage. The festival also runs community viewing events across Miami-Dade County. These include Little Haiti Park, Amelia Earhart Park, Tropical Park, North Beach Sand Bowl and Palmetto Golf Course for select knockout matches. Miami hosts seven World Cup matches at Hard Rock Stadium including the Third-Place Match on July 18.

Philadelphia: Lemon Hill at East Fairmount Park

The Philadelphia FIFA Fan Festival takes place at Lemon Hill in East Fairmount Park. Philadelphia is the only US city running an official Fan Festival all 39 days of the tournament. The site spans 1 million square feet with a 25,000-person capacity. Daily attendance projections range from 15,000 to 25,000 fans on match days.

Entry is free with advance registration through an online platform. Match days feature live broadcasts on giant screens, 75 local food trucks, a Pennsylvania Pavilion and a Vendor Village with local makers. Non-match days feature ticketed concert events. Philadelphia upgraded the site with new pathways, accessibility ramps, drinking water stations, security cameras and a basketball court.

The 2026 tournament also marks America’s 250th anniversary. Philadelphia integrates the Semiquincentennial into its festival programming. Philadelphia hosts six World Cup matches at Philadelphia Stadium (Lincoln Financial Field) including a Round of 16 match on July 4.

Boston hosts seven World Cup matches at Boston Stadium (Gillette Stadium) including a Round of 32 match on June 29 and a Quarterfinal on July 9.

Seattle: Distributed Unity Loop Model

The Seattle FIFA Fan Festival uses a distributed model rather than a single venue. The Unity Loop programme connects multiple sites across the city. Mexico City: Zócalo

The Mexico City FIFA Fan Festival takes place at the Zócalo, the city’s historic main square in the Centro Histórico district. The site holds more than 100,000 fans on big match days. All 16 of Mexico City’s municipalities run satellite viewing spaces and cultural programming alongside the main Zócalo festival. This makes Mexico City the most geographically widespread fan experience of any host city.

Programming includes live mariachi, lucha libre exhibitions, food vendors and traditional dance. The Zócalo sits steps from the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace. Visitors get easy access to UNESCO World Heritage landmarks.

Guadalajara: Plaza Liberación

The park has dedicated security checkpoints at all entrances, unlike most other Fan Festival sites. Programming includes live music performances, possible K-Pop acts, food vendors and views of the Sierra Madre mountains. Parque Fundidora previously set an attendance record of more than 2 million fans during the Pa’l Norte music festival. The venue has experience handling massive crowds. FIFA World Cup Fan Festival 2026

Planning Your Visit

Public transit is the smartest option for most festival sites. Parking near major venues is limited and expensive. Mexico City Metro costs roughly $0.30 USD per trip. Atlanta MARTA serves Centennial Olympic Park directly via the CNN Center station. Toronto TTC streetcars run to Exhibition Place and The Bentway. Vancouver SkyTrain serves the Hastings Park area. LA Metro E Line serves the Coliseum at Expo Park/USC. Philadelphia SEPTA offers free post-match rides on the Broad Street Line through an Airbnb partnership.

Weather varies sharply across the three countries. Southern US cities run hot in June and July. Houston, Dallas, Miami and Atlanta exceed 32°C (90°F) regularly. Each festival provides shade, misting zones and water stations. Mexico City stays cooler at high altitude. Vancouver stays mildest at 18 to 22°C with occasional rain. Toronto sits between 20 and 27°C. Fans should pack layers for evening kickoffs.

Multi-city trips work well for serious fans. Philadelphia and New York sit 90 miles apart with frequent Amtrak service. Boston links to New York via the Northeast Corridor. Dallas and Houston connect by direct flights or a 4-hour drive. Mexico City to Guadalajara to Monterrey works on direct domestic flights with Aeroméxico, Volaris or Viva Aerobus.

Most venues are cashless. Cards and digital payment apps work everywhere in the US and Canada. Mexican venues still accept cash for some vendors. Comfortable shoes matter for standing during long match days. Team colours or jerseys help fans join the festive atmosphere. Sunscreen, hats and refillable water bottles are essential at outdoor festivals.
