2026 FIFA World Cup Tickets Resale and Transfer Policies Explained

Your plans changed after buying World Cup tickets. Or you missed the lottery and now want to buy from another fan. Either way, you need to know how the official resale and transfer system works before you do anything.

This guide covers the fees, rules, platform status and everything you need to stay safe.

2026 FIFA World Cup Tickets Resale Platform

Last Updated: April 2, 2026

FIFA’s Official Resale Platform: What’s Happening Right Now

The FIFA Resale/Exchange Marketplace is the only official fan-to-fan ticketing platform for World Cup 2026. FIFA first launched it on October 2, 2025. The platform then closed from February 22 to April 2, 2026 so FIFA could complete its seat allocation process.

The marketplace reopened on April 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET. Phase 4 (Last-Minute Sales) opened one day earlier on April 1, 2026 on a first-come, first-served basis. New tickets are being released on a rolling basis, including same-day releases for some matches.

Two separate platforms exist based on where you live:

  • FIFA Resale Marketplace for USA, Canada and international residents (no price cap)
  • FIFA Exchange Marketplace / Mercado de Intercambio for Mexico residents only (face value cap enforced by local law)

FIFA handles all transactions, payments and ticket transfers. Tickets stay digital at all times. This is the only FIFA-authorized resale channel for tickets bought through FIFA.com/tickets.

The 30% Fee Structure (A Major Change from Qatar 2022)

FIFA charges a 15% fee to sellers and a 15% fee to buyers on every resale transaction. The total cost per transaction is 30%.

At Qatar 2022 FIFA charged resale fees of no more than 5% or $0.50 per ticket (whichever was greater). The 2026 fee is six times higher for sellers alone.

Listing PriceSeller ReceivesBuyer PaysFIFA Collects
$100$85$115$30
$500$425$575$150
$1,000$850$1,150$300
$5,000$4,250$5,750$1,500

FIFA shows all fees clearly before you confirm any transaction. FIFA president Gianni Infantino has defended the fees as standard for North American markets. Platforms like StubHub and SeatGeek charge comparable 15% buyer fees.

US Tax Note: US residents who sell tickets on the FIFA Resale Marketplace may receive a Form 1099-K from FIFA for tax reporting purposes.

Dynamic Pricing: A First for the World Cup

The 2026 World Cup is the first FIFA World Cup to use dynamic pricing. Ticket prices shift based on demand, match stage, teams involved and host city. This works the same way airlines and hotels price their seats.

A ticket listed at $200 at the start of a sales phase can cost $350 before that same phase closes. Buy early in any phase to lock in the best available price.

Current face value price ranges (before the 15% service fee):

Ticket TypePrice Range
Supporter Entry Tier$60 (federation-distributed only)
Category 4 (general public minimum)$120+
Category 1 Group Stage$265 to $2,735+
Category 1 Final$6,730 to $8,680 (dynamic)

After a global backlash and a letter from 69 US members of Congress, FIFA added a $60 Supporter Entry Tier for every match. These tickets go directly to national football associations for loyal travelling fans. They are not available to the general public.

Uncapped Pricing vs. Face Value Limits by Country

USA and Canada: No price caps apply. Sellers can list at any price. Final ticket listings on the official resale platform currently start from around $10,000. Some extreme listings on the official platform go beyond $100,000. On third-party markets, some Final tickets have been listed above $143,000.

Mexico: Local consumer protection laws cap resale prices at face value. Sellers cannot list above the original purchase price on the FIFA Exchange Marketplace.

How to Resell Your World Cup Tickets

  1. Log into your FIFA ticketing account at FIFA.com/tickets
  2. Go to the Resale section and select the tickets you want to sell
  3. Set your price. No cap for USA and Canada matches. Face value only for Mexico matches
  4. Submit your listing. FIFA controls when your tickets go live on the marketplace
  5. You get a notification when a ticket sells. You receive 85% of your listing price after FIFA takes its 15% seller fee
  6. Any unsold ticket returns to your FIFA account one hour before kickoff at no charge
  7. Your price locks the moment you submit your listing. To change it you must withdraw and relist

Note: FIFA assigns seat numbers closer to match day. Adjacent seating for multiple tickets is not guaranteed even on resale.

Two Transfer Methods Explained

FIFA gives you two ways to share tickets with other people. They work very differently so pick the right one.

OwnershipTransfers permanentlyYou keep ownership

Ticket Transfer (Permanent)

Full ownership moves to another FIFA account. The recipient can use the ticket, transfer it again or resell it. This action cannot be undone. Use this method only when you want to permanently give or sell your ticket. Tickets received through a transfer are still eligible for resale as long as the original ticket was purchased through FIFA.com/tickets.

Send Your Ticket (Temporary)

You keep full ownership while a guest attends the match in your place. Do this through the FIFA mobile app after your tickets download. You can take back access at any time. Use this for friends or family who attend temporarily.

Third-Party Resale: The Real Risks

FIFA’s Terms of Sale state clearly: “DO NOT PURCHASE TICKETS VIA UNAUTHORISED SALES CHANNELS.”

Tickets bought from StubHub, Viagogo, SeatGeek, Vivid Seats, Facebook Marketplace or any non-FIFA platform may be declared invalid or cancelled by FIFA Ticketing at any time without notice and without refund (Terms of Sale, Clause 8.8).

Key risks to know:

  • Ticket cancellation at the stadium gate with no entry and no refund
  • No buyer protection from FIFA on any unofficial purchase
  • Scam risk is high on social media. Any seller asking for wire transfers or cryptocurrency payments is fraudulent
  • StubHub FanProtect covers the transaction itself. It does not cover FIFA cancelling the ticket at the stadium gate

FIFA filed criminal complaints against Viagogo in 2018 for fraudulent ticket sales. That risk still applies in 2026.

Important Rules Every Buyer and Seller Should Know

  • All sales are final. No cancellations or returns after payment goes through (Clause 7.7)
  • Maximum 4 tickets per match per household at the same address. The limit is 40 tickets total for the full tournament (Clause 8.3)
  • One ticketing account per person. Multiple accounts are prohibited (Clause 7.2)
  • You must attend with your guests unless you formally transfer ticket ownership to them
  • Local taxes apply for matches in Mexico and Canada
  • If your team does not qualify or advance FIFA keeps $10 USD / $15 CAD / $200 MXN per ticket as an admin fee on refunds (Clauses 5.2.2, 5.3.2, 5.3.3)
  • All tickets are digital only. Your ticket appears as a live QR code in the official FIFA World Cup 2026 app on match day. Screenshots do not work due to anti-fraud technology
  • You need a working smartphone and active internet connection at the stadium gate
  • A match ticket does not guarantee entry into the host country. You must arrange your visa for the US, Canada or Mexico separately. FIFA offers the FIFA Priority Appointment Scheduling System (FIFA PASS) to help World Cup ticket holders get US visa interview appointments faster

World Cup 2026 Tickets Resale and Transfer: Quick Answers

How much does FIFA charge for resales?

FIFA charges 15% to sellers and 15% to buyers for a total of 30% per transaction. This is significantly higher than the 5% charged at Qatar 2022.

Can I sell my ticket at any price?

Yes, if the match is in the USA or Canada. Mexico matches are capped at face value due to local consumer protection laws.

What is the difference between Ticket Transfer and Send Your Ticket?

Ticket Transfer permanently moves ownership to another person and it cannot be reversed. Send Your Ticket gives temporary access while you keep ownership and can revoke at any time.

Where is the official resale platform?

FIFA.com/tickets. The FIFA Resale/Exchange Marketplace reopened on April 2, 2026. It is the only official resale channel.

Can I use StubHub, Viagogo, or other third-party sites?

Technically you can, but it violates FIFA’s Terms of Use. FIFA reserves the right to cancel any ticket purchased outside official channels without notice or refund.

When will I get paid after reselling?

You receive 85% of your listing price after FIFA deducts its 15% seller fee. Timing varies by transaction.

What if my ticket doesn’t sell?

Your unsold ticket returns to your FIFA account one hour before kickoff. No fees are charged on unsold tickets.

Can a ticket received through a transfer be resold?

Yes, provided the original ticket was purchased through FIFA.com/tickets during an official sales phase.

Are seats guaranteed together for group purchases?

No. FIFA aims to seat multiple tickets together but does not guarantee adjacent seats, including for resale or transfer tickets.

Is there still a chance to buy tickets directly?

Yes. The Last-Minute Sales Phase (Phase 4) opened April 1, 2026 and runs until July 19 or sellout. It is first-come, first-served with no lottery. For the first time, buyers can select specific seats via an interactive stadium map.
