2026 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals Bracket

How the Quarterfinal Round Works (Format)

Each quarterfinal is a single-elimination knockout: win and advance, lose and go home. A match runs 90 minutes, and if the score is level it goes to 30 minutes of extra time and then a penalty shootout, so no tie can end in a draw.

There are no replays anywhere in the knockout stage. FIFA fixed the full bracket before kickoff, so each quarterfinal was locked to a set pair of Round of 16 winners, and 2026 is the first World Cup to reach this stage through a 48-team field and a new Round of 32.

Quarterfinal Matchups and Previews

France vs Morocco, Boston, July 9

France reached the last eight with a 1-0 win over Paraguay, while Morocco knocked out co-host Canada 3-0. The two met in the 2022 semifinals, which France won 2-0, so Morocco arrives with a score to settle. France, unbeaten so far, is among the favorites to lift the trophy, with Kylian Mbappé leading the line, while Morocco carries the strong knockout form that took it deep in 2022.

Spain vs Belgium, Los Angeles, July 10

Spain edged Portugal 1-0 in a tight all-Iberian tie, and Belgium beat co-host United States 4-1, with Charles De Ketelaere scoring twice. Spain is one of the tournament’s leading sides, built around a fluid attack, while Belgium’s win over the USA was its most convincing knockout display yet. The winner takes a place in the July 14 semifinal in Dallas.

Norway vs England, Miami, July 11

Norway produced the biggest upset of the Round of 16, beating five-time champions Brazil 2-1 behind a double from Erling Haaland. England came through 3-2 against co-host Mexico. This quarterfinal pits Haaland against England captain Harry Kane, two of the tournament’s most dangerous forwards, in Norway’s deepest World Cup run in decades.

Argentina vs Switzerland, Kansas City, July 11

Argentina, the reigning world champions, produced the drama of the round, trailing Egypt 2-0 with about ten minutes left before recovering to win 3-2, with Lionel Messi among the scorers and back on top of the Golden Boot race. Switzerland was the last team to book its place, beating Colombia on penalties after a goalless deadlock. Argentina starts as favorite, but Switzerland has shown it can grind out knockout results.
